The South East of England is facing a severe housing shortage. The projected growth in the country's population means that this problem will become even more acute over coming years. A significant number of new homes, including affordable homes, are needed. It is critical that these are provided along with community and physical infrastructure and local employment opportunities, to ensure that any development is sustainable.

Micheldever Station Market Town (MSMT) has the potential to be part of the solution to the South East's housing shortage. The town would provide 12,500 homes, 5,000 of which would be built with subsidies to assist Hampshire families unable to rent or buy on the open market.

The MSMT site also benefits from a unique location on a main railway line, adjacent to inter-urban bus routes and surrounded by existing main roads. In addition, the town would meet the highest environmental standards.
